Comrade Jamil Mizher, member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that a prisoner release deal in exchange for captured occupation soldier Gilad Shalit will be a victory and a significant achievement for the Palestinian resistance.
Comrade Mizher spoke with the Russia Today television channel on November 23, 2009, saying that the Front does not have confirmed information about upcoming releases in the deal being negotiated, but welcomes the releases of prisoners to come. He called for the resistance factions and the family of the Zionist soldier Shalit to uphold the release of Palestinian prisoners with long sentences, Palestinian prisoners from Jerusalem and Occupied Palestine 48, and Palestinian national leaders, including General Secretary Ahmad Sa'adat, and expressed his hope that the deal will include all of these prisoners. He called such a deal a significant achievement for the Palestinian resistance and its heroic operation in capturing Shalit.
Comrade Mizher further confirmed that the PFLP and its armed wing, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, were not participating in any agreement to halt rocket fire, and confirmed the Palestinian people's right to resist so long as the occupation continues upon our land and our people, and continues in its killing, destruction, settlement construction, the building of the apartheid wall, and denial of the rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to return. He emphasized that the Front is opposed to any talk of a truce with the occupier, as a matter of principle.
He noted that the Zionist enemy needs no excuses to carry out its aggression, it is waging daily attacks on the Gaza Strip, bombing our people, and continues to deny our national rights, and said that we will never deny the national rights of the Palestinian people for any dubious truce or partial "solution."
Comrade Mizher's comments followed upon a statement from AAMB issued on November 22, 2009, that they were not part of any agreement to stop firing rockets or to neutralize any form of legitimate resistance, stressing its adherence to the option of confrontation and resistance of the Palestinian people. Comrade Rabah Muhanna, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP also said that the PFLP, in addition to Islamic Jihad and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, is not part of any such agreement. He stressed the need for united coordination of the resistance.
Comrade Mizher further noted that the Palestinian Authority was facing a political bind after the utter failure of the negotiations with the occupier on which it relied, and calling for a comprehensive review and reevaluation of the destructive path of Oslo, emphasizing the importance of rejecting the so-called "peace process" and building a united front of resistance.
He emphasized that any programs or initiatives purporting to declare a Palestinian state should instead focus on building a real national movement of the Palestinian people, including a rebuilt PLO with democratic and inclusive elections for the Palestinian National Council, that produces a united strategy to implement all of the rights of our people, including the right of return for Palestinian refugees. He noted that the priority should be on establishing Palestinian national unity on firm national principles, in order to fully secure our national rights and confront the occupier.
