Click here for French translationThe Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Gaza said on December 26, 2009 that it stands beside the entirety of the Palestinian people in Gaza in waiting to welcome the important solidarity delegations, Viva Palestina 3 humanitarian convoy and the Gaza Freedom March, and calls upon the Egyptian government to allow these strong voices of solidarity with our people under siege to pass through Egypt and enter Gaza.
The PFLP said it is eagerly awaiting these important delegations carrying vastly needed humanitarian aid, and, even more critically, the political will of grassroots organizers in solidarity with Palestine around the world to confront the occupation and break the siege on Gaza, defying the U.S., the Zionist occupation, and reactionary regimes. It said that these activities expose the complicit silence of the official international community, and also saluted the thousands around the world who are taking part in actions to call for an end to the siege.
The PFLP urged solidarity activists in the delegation to contact the Front when they arrive in Gaza, or for any other communications or media needs, at the following numbers:
Comrade Mizher: 0599998920
Comrade Dr. Swairjo: 0599408177
The Democratic Popular Unity Party (Wihda) party in Jordan also called upon the Egyptian authorities to allow the Viva Palestina 3 convoy to pass from the port of Aqaba to Nuweiba and go to Rafah crossing. Viva Palestina 3, organized by the British charity headed by MP George Galloway and the UK Palestine Solidarity Campaign, includes hundreds of trucks and hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical supplies and humanitarian aid from the UK, throughout Europe, Turkey, and the Arab world. The trucks in the caravan traveled through Europe, Turkey to Syria and Jordan, and are now waiting at Aqaba to pass through Egypt to Gaza.
The Egyptian authorities have attempted to impose conditions on the caravan, including forcing them to return days later, to sail from the Mediterranean, a massive track-back, or to sail through the Suez canal, rendering the trip unaffordable, or to turn over their cargo to another organization. They declared that the convoy's 250 participants would not be allowed access to Gaza. At the same time, the Egyptian authorities also stated they would deny access to the Gaza Freedom Marchers, over 1300 international solidarity activists traveling to Gaza to march with Palestinians to break the siege.
The Wihda party said that the conditions placed on Viva Palestina were unacceptable, including demands that the convoy receive approval from the Israeli occupation authorities, only serve Israel's interests and prevent vital humanitarian assistance from reaching the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza. The statement supported the convoy's refusal to apply for permission from the occupation.
It said further that the Gaza Strip stands steadfast under siege, turned into a prison for one and a half million Palestinians, under a blockade preventing materials necessary for life, including construction materials to rebuild homes destroyed by the Zionist aggression one year ago, and that Gaza has become an international destination by the progressive forces of the world to stand in solidarity with our steadfast people and break the siege, calling on all international organizations to pressure the Egyptian government to allow these solidarity convoys and marches to pass and enter Gaza.
