The following statement was received from the Supporting Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a new organization in Denmark working in solidarity with the Palestinian people, in June 2008.
SFLP (SUPPORTING FRONT FOR THE LIBERATION OF PALESTINE)
For 60 years the Zionist occupation power (known as Israel) has been ethnically cleansing and oppressing the Palestinian people. Zionism is focused on its role as an occupying power and on being a supporting country for imperialism. The Zionist strategy for the conquest of Palestine has always been territorial expansion and ethnic cleansing, under the protection of an imperialist superpower, that today consists mainly of support from the United States. The U.S. actively supports the continuation of the Zionist occupation with military, economic and political support. But what makes the imperialist superpower so interested in supporting the occupation of Palestine? The answer is Israel's position in the Middle East. They have found a valuable coalition partner, namely Israel, and this enables the imperialist power to gain military, economical and political power in the Middle East, and at the same time makes it possible to fight the revolutionary movements.
The kidnapping of 5 PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) prisoners from the Jericho prison is an example on how the imperialists try to fight revolutionary movements. The kidnapping took place on the 14th of March 2006. Israeli military surrounded the prison with tanks and demanded 6 prisoners, 5 of whom are connected to the PFLP, were to be handed to them. Among the kidnapped prisoners is Ahmad Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the PFLP. The prison is a part of the Palestinian Authority and was originally guarded by English and American forces. But on the 14th of March they left the command to the Zionists, thereby giving them the perfect chance to seize the prison.
SFLP supports the Palestinian people's right to fight the Zionist occupation power (Israel). We support PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), a socialist/Marxist organization, that fights against imperialism and Zionism. PFLP demands the founding of a Palestinian state (the entire historical Palestine), a democratic secular state for all. The PFLP is listed on both the US and EU's list of terror organizations. These lists have been created for the purpose of criminalizing revolutionary liberation movements. One of the reasons PFLP is on the lists is that they form a very real threat against the Zionist occupation, but also against imperialism and the image it is trying to create of the Middle East, an image that falsely describes the entire Middle Eastern conflict as a religious dispute. This is the common perception in the western society, where people try to ignore the progressive powers fighting for the liberation of Palestine, and the fact that this is about an occupation and in no way a mutual conflict.
We support the PFLP's fight for a free, socialist Palestine.
